چکیده

State-approved forestry best management practices (BMPs) are a practice or combination of that, when properly implemented, effectively prevent reduce the amount nonpoint source (NPS) pollution entering waterbodies, such as sediment. Although BMPs voluntary in most states southeastern United States (U.S.), forest landowners operating under auspices certification system required to use BMPs, and forest-certified wood procurement organizations also require loggers who supply them with fiber BMPs. Current implementation rates are, on average, 93.6% throughout U.S. We conducted literature review better understand potential effectiveness conserve aquatic resources species Our focuses how NPS pollutants, particularly sediment, fertilizers, herbicides; monitored U.S.; current rates. Additionally, we discuss state BMP monitoring programs, coupled participation programs that routine third-party audits, provide assurance federal agencies protect species. The Fish Wildlife Service has recognized working forests where activities implement represent clear, actionable, scientifically sound approach for conserving at-risk However, there is data gap directly linking conservation resources. Given high diversity U.S., it important this linkage.

Pollution Prevention, Best Management Practices, and Conservation

Farming imposes unenthusiastic externalities upon society. It effects by differ‐ ent sources such as loss of biodiversity, land erosion, nutrient overflow, more water usage and pesticides. Optimistic externalities include respect of nature, independence, free enterprise, and the quality of air. Natural methods decrease some of these costs. It has been proposed that organic farming can reduce th...

Best Management Practices for Aquatic Vegetation Management in Lakes

Aquatic plants are an important component of well functioning lake ecosystems. Plant abundance is influenced by sediments, nutrients and water clarity. Given the dominance of agriculture in Iowa, nutrients and soil lost from “leaky” watersheds combine to create ideal habitat for growth of aquatic plants in lakes and ponds and hasten eutrophication. Under these conditions, plant growth can becom...

Using conservation systems to alleviate soil compaction in a Southeastern United States ultisol

Coastal Plain soils are prone to compaction layers which restrict root growth and reduce yields. The adoption of non-inversion deep tillage has been recommended to disrupt compacted soil layers and create an adequate medium for crop development. In spite of its efficacy, increased fuel prices could reduce in-row subsoiling adoption due to the cost of the operation. We evaluated three subsoiling...
